Anil Patil

Founder and Executive Director

Carers Worldwide

Anil has over 30 years’ experience in international development. His career spans roles as a practitioner, grant-maker, trustee, and organisational founder.

In 2012, he founded Carers Worldwide, drawing on his extensive professional and personal experience. Carers Worldwide is the only international NGO dedicated to unpaid family carers in low- and middle-income countries. The organisation has supported over 250,000 carers and their family members across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Kenya improving their social, mental, physical, and economic well-being. It has also contributed to system change in India by influencing policy reforms that introduced financial support for unpaid carers, including a carers’ allowance.

His vision is simple: a world where unpaid family carers are visible, valued, and supported, with their rights fully recognised and protected.

Alongside his role at Carers Worldwide, Anil is Chair of the Membership and Engagement Working Group of the International Alliance of Carer Organisations (IACO). He is an Ashoka Fellow (International) (2015), recognising leading social entrepreneurs and changemakers, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) (2025), recognised for his contributions to social innovation and impact.
