Data and AI in practice: moving beyond reporting

8 October 2026

How can NGOs move beyond “reporting for compliance” and start using data and AI to genuinely learn, adapt and prepare for the future?

This online session, in partnership ADC Consulting, explored the journey from solid data architecture and impact dashboards to practical, responsible use of AI tools, including Generative AI that can ease text heavy work, in everyday programme and MEL practice with a focus on impact rather than AI hype.

Participants left with clear next steps, concrete use cases and key questions to take back into their organisations.

This session explored

  • Results of the sector AI maturity survey
  • From reporting to learning: Using current monitoring and reporting to create insight for teams, not just compliance products for donors.
  • Getting the data basics right: Practical steps for data architecture, CRMs (e.g. Salesforce), clean data collection and aggregating results across projects and countries.
  • AI in practice: NGO relevant use cases where AI (and GenAI) can help analyse (qualitative) data, draft and adapt reports/proposals, and surface insights from years of narrative and other project data.
  • Future proof and values driven: How to integrate data and AI in line with NGO values, ethics, roles and capabilities, so technology serves strategy rather than the other way around.
