Bond reacts to Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband's speech at Labour Party Conference

In response to the Foreign Secretary’s speech at Labour Party Conference, Romilly Greenhill, CEO of Bond, the UK network for NGOs, said:

Centring our values, bolder actions, and building alliances: we’re pleased to hear the Foreign Secretary put these principles at the heart of the UK’s foreign policy. Tackling the climate crisis, advancing peace in conflict-affected countries, and reforming an international financial system that is not working for the majority are commitments that reflect British values of justice, equality and fairness. Turning these policies into action will deliver for communities around the world and here in the UK.

We welcome his explicit declaration that the UK’s G20 presidency will focus on reforming the international financial system. The UK has a unique position to lead on debt relief, and make sure it is deeper, faster and more sustainable.

Combined with taking action to tackle corrupt illicit financial flows and implement fairer tax rules, the UK’s G20 presidency could be transformative in creating a more stable, resilient and fairer world for us all.
