Bond appoints new CEO

Romilly Greenhill, currently the UK Director at The ONE Campaign has been appointed as Bond’s new Chief Executive and will be starting her new role in November.

Romilly has been UK Director at the ONE Campaign for six years, leading successful campaigns on global health, education, and development finance, and working actively with Bond and other NGO networks. Prior to joining ONE, Romilly spent six years as a Senior Research Fellow and Team Leader at ODI, leading the institution’s work on development finance, including financing the Sustainable Development Goals and the ‘Leave No-One Behind’ agenda. She has also worked as an Aid Transparency Team Leader at DFID, initiating and then running the International Aid Transparency Initiative, and embedding development effectiveness principles throughout the department’s work.

Romilly was an ODI Fellow in the Ugandan Finance Ministry, where she worked to spend the debt relief money released from the early HIPC initiative on education and health and negotiating with donors on behalf of the Ugandan Government. This inspired her to take up subsequent policy advisor roles in the New Economics Foundation and ActionAid, advocating actively for more and better development finance for low and middle-income countries. She was one of the lead policy experts for the 2005 Make Poverty History campaign, helping to secure historic agreements on aid and debt cancellation. She also worked as a Governance Advisor, Southeast Asia, for ActionAid, supporting advocacy and campaigns across the region, especially in Cambodia.

Romilly Greenhill said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Bond as the new CEO. This is a really exciting time for the sector, with new opportunities to advance our mission to help eradicate global poverty, inequality and injustice. I’m also really committed to continuing the great work that Bond has started to decolonise international development, and to promote anti-racist approaches across the sector. I’m a strong believer in the power of civil society to create real and lasting change, and so I couldn’t be more excited to be joining this strong and vibrant network hub.”

Kate Sayer, Board Chair of Bond, said:

“We are excited to welcome Romilly to the team at Bond. Having just celebrated 30 years of achievements, we are looking forward to the future for the development sector and we are delighted that Romilly will be leading Bond through the next phase.”

Gayle Smith, CEO of ONE, said:

“We at ONE are proud of and happy for Romilly as she takes the mantle of leadership at Bond, and grateful for her terrific leadership as ONE’s Country Director for the UK. Romilly brings together the policy smarts, political savvy and compassion that fuel the change that we need. I’ve every confidence that she will continue to effectively champion a robust and sustained role for the UK in the fight against poverty, inequality and injustice and serve Bond’s members well.”
