Bond statement in response to International Development Committee launch of inquiry on the Effectiveness of UK Aid

Stephanie Draper, CEO of Bond the UK network for NGOs said:

“This is an important opportunity to fully understand the impact and effectiveness of UK aid ahead of the integrated review this summer. It is absolutely right that independent scrutiny bodies such as the International Development Committee take a closer look at how UK aid is being spent, and whether it is continuing to work for the world’s poorest, which should be the sole objective of any investment in development.

We hope the IDC take the opportunity to look at how the rise in competing priorities in UK aid spending is undermining our commitment to the very poorest, and recognise that it is impossible to spend aid effectively if it is not done transparently.

As we move into the decade for delivery on our SDG commitments, we know that the best value aid can offer to the British taxpayer is to ensure aid is spent trying to help people facing the devastating impact of conflict, poverty and climate change.”
