Bashir al Hossain is Programme Manager with the National Grassroots Disability Organization (NGDO), Bangladesh. NGDO was formed as a national apex body of the grassroots OPDs in July 2004 and is a network of 106 grassroots OPDs at the national level working to advance the rights and participation of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. It operates in 25 out of 64 districts in Bangladesh which contain over 30,000 active members. As a leading and strong network of OPDs, NGDO attributes much of its success to having strong relationships with the government, NGOs, civil society, and the media. These relationships helped to increase the acceptability of individuals with disabilities in the larger society.
