Bond statement in response to PM Theresa May’s commitment to cease support for fossil fuel projects and prioritise sustainable investments

“We welcome the government’s announcement that it will cease support for fossil fuel projects and ensure future investments prioritise the environmental and carbon footprint. This is potentially a huge win for the climate and development sector and an important step towards tackling climate change, a threat that risks pushing 100 million people into poverty in the next decade.

UK aid must continue to focus on the world’s poorest people and the UK must not double count more of its ODA investment towards both our 0.7% commitment and our climate finance obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement.”
