Bond statement in response to National Audit Office report on the effectiveness of Official Development Assistance expenditure

Claire Godfrey, Head of Policy and Campaigns at Bond the UK network for NGOs said:

“The NAO report rightly recognises that UK aid delivered by DFID has lifted millions out of poverty and helps get the basics, such as clean water and shelter to people living in conflict. DFID should review the effectiveness of ODA being spent by other government departments and cross-government funds. It is also essential that the Secretary of State for International Development has oversight for all ODA. This is the best way of ensuring that aid is used to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people so we can continue to champion our record on poverty reduction on the international stage.”
