Prof. Gibril Faal is the vice chair of Bond and member of the Finance and Investment Committee of the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD). He is also professor in practice at the Institute of Global Affairs, London School of Economics (LSE) and co-founder and director of GK Partners. He is the founding director of the Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Platform (ADEPT) in Brussels, founder of RemitAid™, and former chair of AFFORD.
In 2017/18, Gibril served as technical expert during consultations and negotiations for the Global Compact for Migration. In 2013, he delivered a keynote address at the UN General Assembly to open the High Level Dialogue on Migration and Development, and in 2016 he addressed the UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants. He chairs the Entrepreneurship Committee of the GFMD Business Mechanism, and previously served as co-chair, grand rapporteur and common space moderator at GFMD summits.
Gibril was a lecturer on The Open University's MSc on Global Development Management and external evaluator of COMPAS, University of Oxford. He was a board member of EC-UN Joint Migration and Development Initiative and DFID’s Global Poverty Action Fund. In 2014, he published an advocacy handbook: Understanding and Influencing Policy. He is also a Justice of the Peace and part-time magistrate Since 1998 Gibril has accepted ministerial appointments made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Secretary of State for International Development, the Lord Chancellor, and the Home Secretary. He studied at five universities in London and is qualified in different disciplines.
