Karen joined Greenpeace UK in 2013, just before the ship Arctic Sunrise was seized by the Russian authorities. The activists on board became known as the Arctic 30, and gained worldwide coverage for Greenpeace's campaign to save the Arctic from oil drilling. This crisis also threatened to stretch the organisation's resources to breaking point. Navigating the relationship between campaigning and fundraising was brought into sharp and urgent focus for Karen in her role as director of fundraising and marketing.
Prior to this, Karen spent over ten years as director of marketing at the RSPB, and also did consultancy work at Fauna and Flora International and Forest and Bird New Zealand.
She is also a specialist contributor to Cranfield University's General Management Programme.
