Iara Pietricovsky is a Brazilian anthropologist and co-director of INESC.
She began her career carrying out field research on indigenous populations in Brazil. Later she worked for seven years as a researcher in the National Center of Cultural Reference and in the Pro-Memory National Foundation. As a researcher of the Brazilian culture, she was part of the team that developed a new basis for a Brazilian cultural policy in the 1980s.
In 1987, she joined INESC – The Institute for Socioeconomic Studies – where she is still working. Initially she was responsible for the environmental and indigenous area. From 1997 to late 1998 she focused on international cooperation. Later, she became an international policies adviser and, in 2001, she was appointed one of the Institute’s 3 co-directors.
