Director of International Relations at the Department for International Development (DFID), Gwen has worked for the UK Government since 1996 in a range of policy and operational positions.
Gwen was appointed to the role of UK Executive Director to the World Bank in 2012 and, before that, she was the country representative for DFID in Malawi and then in Bangladesh. Her other roles have included work on behalf of the British government with multilateral organisations (World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization, United Nations), as well as G8 and Pan-African relations and the UK aid programme in Pakistan.
Besides DFID, Gwen has worked for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office as Desk Officer for South Africa and then Burma/Myanmar; for the European Union's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development as a Seconded National Expert; and for Apple. She completed an internship in the US House of Representatives, and her academic background is in politics, economics and psychology.
