Professor Bruna Seu is a professor in psychosocial studies and critical psychology at Birkbeck, University of London.

Her most recent research on Mediated Humanitarian Knowledge: Audiences’ Reactions and Moral Actions investigates the UK public’s understandings and reactions to humanitarian and international development issues and their communications, as well as exploring how NGOs plan and think about their communications. Professor Seu’s book, Caring in Crisis? Humanitarianism, the Public and NGOs, offers a psychosocial account of how and why people respond or not to messages about distant suffering. The book highlights what NGOs seek to achieve in their communications and explores how their approach and hopes match or don’t match what the public wants, thinks and feels about distant suffering. Bruna has a PhD in Social Psychology from University College London.  She qualified as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in 1989 and has practised as a psychotherapist since.
