Abhina Aher is a trans activist working with India HIV/AIDS Alliance as associate director on the gender sexuality and rights project, working particularly with key populations including men who have sex with men, transgender women and women in sex work. She has been working in the HIV sector for the last 24 years.
She is part of the technical support teams of the World Health Organization (WHO) and National AIDS Control Society (NACO). She is also a starring committee member of the International Trans Fund (ITF), was part of the High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, and was vice president of the International Reference Group of Transgender Women working in HIV/AIDS globally.
She started the first transgender-led dancing group for gender advocacy in India called "Dancing Queens Mumbai". She holds a postgraduate diploma in NGO management and a diploma in software programming, and is a prominent leader of Hijra (socio ethnic) community in India.
