Saferworld is an independent international organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote co-operative people-centred approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practises through advocacy, research and policy development and through supporting the actions of others.
Saferworld is looking for a Head of Middle East and North Africa programme to lead our work in the region. The successful candidate will oversee the effective implementation of the country programmes, ensuring quality standards are achieved and learning continually informs adaptation and future development. S/he will provide leadership and advice on programming, including participatory methodologies, partnership approaches, and people-centred and community-led influencing strategies for change; and will lead a team that can deliver and embody Saferworld’s values and principles through their work. The post holder is expected to contribute regularly to Saferworld’s organisational learning and strategy development and is a member of the organisational management team.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience at a senior level in leading multi-thematic programmes in development and/or community or grassroots peacebuilding/conflict prevention. S/he will have extensive experience of leading, mentoring, and developing teams of staff with different backgrounds, and fostering supportive, transparent and safe environments for them. Experience of working in/on the MENA region is an essential element.
