Al-Khair Foundation is a UK registered charity working to deliver humanitarian and development projects worldwide.
The Communications Department is responsible for providing strategic leadership and management in developing, maintaining and implementing Al-Khair’s communications & PR strategy to reach a wide range of audiences, and contribute to the strategic development of the organisation.
We are looking for a Head of Communications and PR (Maternity Cover) to effectively lead, manage and inspire the department, taking responsibility for the long and short term planning, implementation and high quality delivery of all communications and PR related activity. This is a fixed term position to June/ July 2017.
The key responsibilities of the role will be to respond quickly to changing circumstances, and communicate that information effectively within the organisation and public; provide support to the Senior Leadership Team in contributing towards achieving Al-Khair’s overall strategic objectives by developing, implementing and monitoring policies relevant to the area of operation; effectively lead and manage the Communications & PR department in achieving the strategic objectives of Al-Khair; ensure staff are implementing the values of Al-Khair Foundation in all areas of work; develop a strategy for providing high quality media coverage for Al-Khair’s work both here in the UK and internationally to promote its objectives; increase the visibility of and strengthen Al Khair’s reputation through consistent publications, linking with reputable academic institutions; identify a range of communications initiatives in order to effectively promote Al-Khair’s image to a wider audience; ensure key communications regarding Al-Khair’s activities are consistently and coherently delivered to all media outlets, governmental departments and UN agencies; maximise the potential of Al-Khair’s website, video production and social media presence; continue sourcing and developing opportunities to create new promotions and visibility for Al Khair Foundation; research and raise awareness for the charity in the media and write press releases as required; develop public awareness of Al-Khair’s work through focussed and positive media coverage, utilising Al-Khair’s own TV channels and to contribute to the production of key publications; and ensure compliance with the Al-Khair’s financial procedures in all activities of the Communications department.
For this role you will need a degree level qualification or equivalent, preferably in in English or Media; relevant professional experience of working in a senior communication role, ideally in the charity sector; of leading and managing Marketing and Communication campaigns; and the ability to Identify and exploit business development opportunities.
