The Global Human Resources Director (GHRD) will provide oversight and support to Regional Human Resource Managers and to RI’s HR field staff in order to achieve HR Strategic goals.

Position Summary : The Global Human Resources Director (GHRD) (while this position will remain at the Director level, the title may change) will provide oversight and support to Regional Human Resource Managers (RHRMs) and to RI’s HR field staff in order to achieve HR Strategic goals. The GHRD will also ensure compliance to local labor laws, donor requirements, and RI’s HR policies. In addition, the GHRD will be in charge of staff care and will provide HR support to UK staff.  In addition, this position will emphasize Staff Care and Compliance.

The Global Human Resources Director reports to the VP of Human Resources and plays a critical role in executing HR initiatives and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement.  This role is both strategic and hands-on and provides full cycle HR support.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

RI currently seeks a Global Human Resources Director to work toward accomplishing the following:

  • Ensures that HR processes and policies are in compliance with RI’s mission, organizational values, donor rules and regulations and country and local labor laws;
  • Manages employee wellness programs (for local nationals and expats);
  • Ensures that HR policies around employee relations fully support RI’s mission, reflect global best practices in human resources management and are in line with ethical standards and legal requirements wherever RI operates;
  • Reviews and updates SOPs SPOs and contingency plans to ensure that they exceed best practices for US and international staff;
  • Performs spot checks to Personnel Files -- at the field to ensure they are auditable at all times and provides training to HR Mangers on compliance.
  • Serves as an internal consultant and facilitator to RHRMs and employees in resolving employment and/or performance problems;
  • Fulfills our intent for openness, transparency and accessibility of information;
  • Ensures cross-organizational collaboration, shared success and joint action;
  • Collaborates with RHRMs to resolve everyday issues and develop short and long term HR strategies and solutions designed to achieve optimal departmental performance and organizational effectiveness.
  • When needed, provides support to RHRMs in recruiting international staff.
  • Backs up RHRMs when a gap exists or when additional support is needed.
  • Improves communication between GSO HR and field offices by continuously communicating with field HR Managers and Country Directors.
  • Monitors and provides support for the proper implementation of HR initiatives according to agreed upon indicators and advises VP of HR on progress. 
  • Consistently communicates with Expats and assesses their satisfaction with their  work and ability to cope.
  • Monitors application of RI policies and adherence to salary scales at field offices.
  • Provides day-to-day HR support to the RI GSO office in London and ensures the office is organically connected with other GSO offices of RI.
  • Participates in management and organizational staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as necessary;
  • Travels as required and directed by supervisor;

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.

  • A Bachelor degree is required, preferably in human resources management, or related studies. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Progressive experience in international HR management preferably in the non-profit INGO sector;
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions manifested through a valid HR Certification such as SPHR, PHR, SHRM SCP or CP.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members;
  • Exceptional communication skills, oral and written;
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, in particular, Excel skills in database management and record keeping;
  • A good level of knowledge of applicable employment law and practices in the UK, including Brexit issues;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Experience working with staff members located in international locations;
  • Ability to manage complex projects, prioritize multiple tasks with close attention to detail and accuracy and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English.
  • This is a UK-based position and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the UK.
