Join the Neotree foundation and together we could save 1.67m babies from dying each year. Each year 2.5 million babies die (21 per 1000 live births). Two thirds of these deaths could be prevented with simple, proven interventions. Most of these preventable deaths occur in low- income settings. The Neotree Foundation was established to tackle this problem. We have developed an open source platform - the Neotree - that: ● Educates and supports healthcare workers - empowering them to improve the care provided and enabling them to ensure more newborns can survive and thrive ● Captures data so that neonatal outcomes can be easily measured and improved Our software runs on low cost hardware. Our ambition is to minimise the cost to run Neotree and give local teams control and ownership of their data. Neotree has a medicine-based approach: ● We are clinician-led ● We put research first – undertaking rigorous academic research to measure the technology’s efficacy in improving neonatal outcomes and the technology’s acceptability to local teams ● We collaborate. We partner with local teams to implement and co-develop the technology around their needs We are currently implementing the technology in three hospitals: two in Zimbabwe and one in Malawi. The research is funded until April 2022. Following the completion of this research, we aim to roll out Neotree to a larger network of hospitals, while continuing the research. This larger roll out and the ongoing research results (if positive) should enable us to gain WHO accreditation. We could then drive the usage of the platform across more geographies and hopefully save more lives. The Neotree Foundation was only established in 2019. Currently, it has no executive team and all work is done either through University College London covered by research grants or by volunteers (including the trustees). There is a large amount of work that needs to be done to establish the Foundation and build an executive team that can move us to the next stage. Immediate challenge: there is likely to be a funding gap between the end of the current research and the large scale roll out. Obviously, we want to continue to run Neotree without interruption. In order to do this, the Neotree Foundation will need to:
1. Assume responsibility from the research team for running Neotree from April 2022 2. Manage the costs 3. Develop and execute a fundraising strategy to ensure Neotree has sufficient money to continue to deliver the service at the desired level once the current funding has run out The role we are looking to fill We are looking for an individual to: 1. Lead the Neotree Foundation and build an executive team from the ground up 2. Report to the Trustees on progress at bi-monthly meetings 3. Understand the difference in roles and responsibilities between the Neotree Foundation and the research teams 4. Work with the Neotree team in the UK, South Africa (where the development team are based), Zimbabwe (where the Neotree is running in two hospitals) and Malawi (where it is running in one) 5. Understand the different activities that Neotree currently perform, and what they cost. Ensure that Neotree raises enough funds to cover its own costs and to keep the platform running in the three hospitals. 6. Consider and propose to the trustees a team structure and when funded and signed off by the trustees - hire and manage the team 7. Lead on the administration of the charity, including filing accounts and meeting regulatory requirements 8. Undertake a risk assessment and manage the relevant risks for the foundation We are looking for the following skills and experience: 1. Leader and self-starter 2. Pro-active - willing to support all tasks (small and large). Note - there is currently no one to ‘delegate to’. 3. Preferable experience in: a. building a team b. working in the charitable sector (international / medical) c. fundraising 4. Relationship builder - required to work with the UK, Malawi and Zimbabwe teams 5. Finance - strong understanding of finance and risk 6. Value driven.
