About the role

PAC is ambitious to foster growing energy access provision and to influence energy access stakeholders for the benefit of poor, vulnerable and marginalised populations.  To deliver this we need high performing consultants who are passionate about winning, managing and delivering high quality and high impact work in the energy and development sectors. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative energy consultant with experience and motivation related to energy access and international development.  As a core member of the PAC International Energy Team, you will:

  • Lead key aspects of business development (including writing effective, quality proposals and preparing proposal budgets/financial submissions)
  • Play a supporting role for the project management of a wide-ranging portfolio of energy projects (e.g. aspects of work planning, team co-ordination, technical delivery, finance)
  • Provide high quality and timely technical inputs to build and maintain our range of energy projects in line with Practical Action’s strategic energy objectives (‘change ambitions’)

You will lead project proposal development, and contribute to project management.  You will also work closely with wider PAC Energy colleagues (e.g. members of the teams running existing projects for Last Mile Distribution and Humanitarian Energy) to provide energy knowhow and technical input required by PA energy programmes and fundraising efforts.  You will also develop close links with the members of other PAC International teams and Country/Regional offices.

You will work with other Energy Team members and wider PAC colleagues to build and maintain a network of associate consultants and partners/contacts in the energy and development sector. You will be encouraged to further develop your knowledge, skills and expertise regarding energy access, the energy and development sector, and the energy consultancy sector more broadly.

About you

You have some existing knowledge and/or experience in energy access/international development, but more importantly you have a thirst to widen your knowledge and experience in a hands-on role, winning and delivering a wide-ranging project portfolio. Ideally you will have some experience of working in a consultancy/programme management environment. You are a natural collaborator and able to work in a small team environment, turning you hand to varied tasks as required and in order to develop your skills. You are willing and able to work dynamically and flexibly across a wide range of issues and activities, according to shifting opportunities and direction. You have 

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Existing knowledge and experience in energy access and energy for development
  • Existing experience of working in a consultancy, or in a related environment, on business development and project delivery
  • Strong interest in energy access and energy for development, and a clear willingness to build personal capability and learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a small team environment
  • Willingness and ability to work dynamically and flexibly across a wide range of issues and activities, according to shifting opportunities and directions
  • Experience of working in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America.
