12-month fixed term contract initially with a view to renewing beyond the first year. Home-based with occasional meetings in Oxford. Please note this is a UK based role.

We are a dynamic social enterprise looking for a Communications Manager with a strong background in communications and marketing. Working flexibly from home, you will play an important role in helping our small, friendly team to build PCI’s profile and communicate our services in key markets.

About Primary Care International (PCI)

PCI was launched as a social enterprise in 2014 by Red Whale | GP Update, one of the UK’s leading providers of continuous medical education (CME) in primary care. We are a small ‘virtual’ team comprised of a team of part-time staff supported by a Board of Directors.

PCI seeks to find sustainable solutions for delivering quality and cost-effective front-line healthcare worldwide, with a current focus on Non-Communicable Diseases. We work with a number of high profile partners across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as well as smaller local organisations. We are also working in high-income settings like Scandinavia and Australia. PCI seeks specifically to grow the capability of the health workforce to learn and develop, raising clinical care standards, addressing related health systems issues, and ultimately delivering improved health outcomes.

Job Description

The focus areas for this role are to:

Lead, shape and implement PCI’s communications and marketing activity

  • Drafting and editing communications materials for different audiences, to include case for support documents, annual reports, quarterly newsletters, blogs, website copy
  • Content generation and day-to-day management of social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Identifying strategic networking opportunities and coordinating PCI representation at these events / networks / forum
  • Proactively seek opportunities to publish PCI blogs / reports and identify strategic partnerships that will get PCI’s message heard in the right places
  • Proposal and bid writing in support of new business opportunities

Market PCI’s annual GP Update Global Programme to family medicine doctors practising internationally

  • Developing and managing marketing plan, including identification of new channels through which to reach potential delegates
  • Copywriting promotional course materials (web copy, flyers etc)
  • Managing large mailings through MailChimp as well as ensuring individualised follow-up as needed

Manage internal communications strategy

  • Working with other team members, develop mechanisms to ensure virtual teams, including large freelance clinical team, feel supported and part of team.

Contribute to overall team strategy and planning

  • Participating in team meetings and annual strategy days
  • Feeding experience and ideas into overall strategic and operational plans

Person Specification

Skills and Experience

  1. A proven track record in communications and marketing ideally in a social enterprise/non-profit organisation
  2. Outstanding writing and editing skills and ability to adapt writing style to different audiences
  3. Ability to creatively engage with raw material and create compelling documents
  4. Excellent communicator with good relationship building skills (including phone/Skype)
  5. Experience communicating with diverse people around the world
  6. Confidence and ability to optimise use of social media to build profile
  7. Experience of working in global health/development and/or in resource-poor settings

We are also looking for the following:

  1. Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends
  2. Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities
  3. Proactive and able to take own initiative to support team working
  4. Access to good broadband Internet for home-working
  5. An efficient, organised, accurate record-keeper
