Interburns (www.interburns.org) is an innovative, dynamic, global, health sector NGO focussed on improving the quality of burn prevention and treatment in low resource and conflict settings.  It’s a charity that is highly regarded and unique in its field. We have built a large community of volunteers who share a passion for burn prevention and treatment, and who have supported each other to develop and share resources that are innovative and proven to reduce burn injuries in low-and middle-income countries where the highest number of injuries occur.

The organisation supports long-term change through strategic planning, building networks of multidisciplinary practitioners to share best practice, and delivery of tailor-made tools and training programmes. We also work with international partners to improve emergency response mechanisms for mass casualty disasters.

The Board is seeking a part-time CEO to provide strategic oversight and lead us into the next exciting phase of growth and influence. We aim to scale up the adoption of our comprehensive approach, identify and secure sustainable sources of funding, and continuing to deliver impactful programmes that improve the quality of burn prevention and care. Interburns currently employs a full time programme manager and an operation manager, who will report to the CEO; we also have a part-time medical and a part-time nursing lead (both 0.2fte).

We are looking for someone with vision, energy and a proven track record in engaging with the governance systems of a charity while supporting strategic and organisational development for growth and sustainability.

As a result of our new CEO’s leadership, within two years we aim to:

- expand the number of countries and partners that use our comprehensive approach.

 - secure a broader spread of funding partners and options, for instance with a mix of philanthropic, corporate and international development sources.

- have a strategically sound ‘business’ plan agreed and in place for the next five years.

Requirements

Essential:

S/he will have:

  • At least 10 years’ experience working in international development or global health with knowledge of managing projects related to Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Experience in raising the profile of an issue or organisation on the international stage.
  • Proven ability to take forward innovative practices and/or technologies to scale in challenging policy environments.
  • Demonstrated skills in identifying and engaging with a wide variety of donors and securing new funding streams.
  • Ability to work collegially within a small team and engage with professionals from a range of backgrounds and with different skill sets.

Desirable

  • A background in international health sector development would be an advantage.
  • Experience of living and working overseas in a low resource environment would be beneficial.

It is anticipated that the role will be equivalent to 2 days a week and can be worked flexibly in agreement with the Board. Interburns has registered offices in Cardiff and Brussels but the role is home based with quarterly Board meetings in the UK.

The position will be funded initially for two years. The salary is commensurate with a CEO of a charity, pro rata £70,000-75,000,000 FTE depending on experience.
