Disability and development
Influence government and other stakeholders to ensure disabled people are considered in all international development policies
80% of disabled people (around 500 million people) live in the poorest countries of the world as reported by the UN.
The Disability and Development Group believe that disabled people have the right to have their concerns addressed at the highest level within the international development sector and beyond because the impact of excluding them from development and humanitarian programmes can result in their isolation socially, politically and environmentally.
The group brings together professionals from over forty UK-based mainstream and disability-specific organisations with a mission to develop dialogue with the UK government and other influential stakeholders to prevent discrimination and ensure that disabled people are considered and included in all international development policies.
