Bond is the UK membership body for organisations working in international development or supporting those that do through funding, research, training and other services. Established in 1993, we now have over 450 members ranging from large agencies with a world-wide presence to smaller, specialist organisations.
We promote, support, represent and on occasion lead the work and interests of UK international development organisations, united by a common goal to eradicate global poverty.
We work to influence governments and policy-makers, develop the skills of people in the sector, build organisational capacity and effectiveness and provide opportunities to exchange information, knowledge and expertise.
We facilitate and coordinate collective action by our members and wider UK civil society to influence the policies and practice of governments and institutions at the UK, European and international level.
We also represent our membership in various national and international networks in the UK and the rest of Europe and advocate on behalf of Bond members on the funding environment in which they operate.
When voices join together they get heard... Bond is the embodiment of that spirit.
Minouche Shafik, Permanent Secretary, DFID, 2008–2011
We host vibrant events, groups and web spaces, where members can network, engage, share knowledge and expertise, and work collaboratively to have a greater impact.
My Bond is an online hub for learning, sharing and collaboration. If your organisation is a Bond member you can sign up for an account.
We also keep our members and the wider sector up to date with the latest news and views relevant to the development sector.
We help make the development sector work better.
Learning and training
Our flexible and comprehensive learning and training programme for members and non-members is designed to build the capacity of people working in the sector. Our expert trainers deliver pratical and participatory training on a range of relevant topics.
Effectiveness and transparency
In the name of effective development we build useful tools, publish and curate helpful resources, and work with our members to define best practice in areas such as transparency and value for money.
Bond's work is funded by member subscriptions, income generated through paid-for service, and grants, including strategic funding from the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
