The purpose of the Working Group is to increase the impact of our members by providing a forum where those agencies working at the interface of environmental and poverty issues can exchange information, enhance their analysis and coordinate their advocacy towards UK Government and other relevant institutions.
The officers of the Working Group are the co-chairs, one each from an environmental and a development NGO. The co-chairs are nominated by the membership for a two year term. The co-chairs are responsible for convening and chairing meetings, ensuring records of meetings, organising meetings with other bodies and maintaining the membership list.
Membership of the Working Group is open to all BOND members. Non-BOND members with an active concern for the relationship between the environment and development can be considered for membership. Applications for membership should be directed to one of the co-chairs.
The Working group will:
- Meet periodically and communicate regularly to facilitate the business of the group.
- Monitor key events and policy processes relevant to its concerns.
- Maintain regular contact with officials in the UK Government departments relevant to its concerns (DFID, FCO, DETR), and with EU and other inter-governmental bodies, where possible.
- Prepare policy papers, proposals and communications in order to represent the members' collective concerns and to facilitate advocacy by individual members.
- Share relevant information and analysis with the wider BOND membership, other Working Groups and the Executive, through forums, bulletins and other mechanisms as appropriate.
