Disaster Risk Reduction Group
The group is a network of representatives from different UK NGOs from both emergency and development. The purpose of the group is to share information on an informal basis, to exchange experiences and knowledge, explore opportunities for closer co-ordination and collaboration and to advance common issues.
The group meets 3-4 times a year and meetings are hosted alternately by member NGOs.

DRRG meeting - 6 June 2008
The theme of the meeting on 6 June was 'Accountability in DRR'.
Monica Blagescu from Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) gave a presentation on HAP (ppt, 212KB) - what it is, their standards, implications for partners and links to DRR work. There was then a general discussion about why an organisation would sign up to HAP.
Marcus Oxley from Tearfund presented an update on the Global Review planned by the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for DRR (ppt) to monitor progress towards implementation of the Hyogo framework
There was also an update on UN climate change negotiations in Bonn and updates from the group about their work plans.

DRRG meeting - 3 April 2008
DRRG organised a workshop on 3 April 2008 to plan a strategy for climate change advocacy for the group. Minutes of the 3 April 2008 meeting are here.
DRRG meeting - 14 February 2008
The DRRG met on 14 February at the Christian Aid offices. At the meeting, Oenone Chadburn from Tearfund handed over the role of Chair temporarily to Sarah Moss from Christian Aid, as Oenone is going on maternity leave from the end of February. Welcome to Sarah, and we wish Oenone a restful maternity leave and best wishes for the new arrival!

DRRG meeting - 15 November 2007
The DRRG last met on 15 November at ActionAid's offices. The group discussed practical ways to address DDR on the ground and the recent evaluation report of the Action Aid Tsunami Team. Please see the minutes of the 15 November meeting for more information.
DRRG meeting - 6 September 2007
The group met on 6 September at the CAFOD offices. The group discussed opportunities for group action and reviewed advocacy and networking opportunities. Please see the minutes of the 6 September meeting for more information.
DRRG ad hoc meeting - 13 July 2007
The group met on 13 July 2007 at BOND. This was an ad hoc meeting called following the First Global Platform held in June (in Geneva) which opened up many opportunities for the group to engage in. One of these opportunities was to give formal feedback to the draft Global Review of Hyogo Framework for Action. This report assesses the progress against the actions of the Hyogo Framework during its first 2 years of implementation. The report's author, Andrew Maskrey was particularly keen to receive feedback from the NGO community and flew over to London to facilitate this feedback session with the BOND DRRG. DRRG meeting - 9 February 2007
The DRRG met on 9 February 2007 at the Christian Aid offices. The theme of the meeting was Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA). Tom Mitchell from the IDS gave a presentation, 'On Better Terms', and led discussions on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation terminology. Terry Cannon from the University of Greenwich presented recent results of research reviewing how to adapt Vulnerability Analysis for CCA. 2006 activities
The DRRG met on 2 November 2006 at Tearfund's offices. Please see the minutes of the 2 November meeting for more information.
The Group met on 10 July 2006 at the British Red Cross. The meeting was followed directly by a joint BOND and DEC workshop on DRR Principles/Standards in Recovery. The workshop was facilitated by Philip Buckle from the Coventry Centre for Disaster Management. For more information, please see the minutes of the 10 July 2006 meeting.
The Group's April 2006 meeting was held at Plan International. The theme of the meeting was the links between climate change and disaster risk reduction (pdf, 110KB). Minutes are available by following the link above.
