RED International
Relief
Education Development International (RED
International) works through a network of
partner NGOs around the world to transform lives and communities among the poor
and marginalised.
In our first three years of operation, we have become involved in the growing campaign for Dalit emancipation and empowerment in India. Our Indian partners are engaged with advocacy on behalf of Dalit communities and also with programmes tackling the root causes of their poverty and social exclusion. They have responded to calls from national and local Dalit leaders to provide quality English-medium education schools where their children are treated with equality, dignity and respect.
The 80 Dalit Education Centres currently in operation are now becoming hubs for other programmes focusing on health, women's empowerment, vocational training and economic development. RED International has obtained grants for the construction of new schools and together with other partners is raising funds to sponsor the education of the 13,000 Dalit students. The longer-term aim is to build sustainable communities where the Dalits can access the rights, freedoms and opportunities they have been denied for so long.
RED International continues to strengthen relationships with all our partners and seeks opportunities to support their work.
