Policy
The fight against poverty is a continuing struggle in developing countries. Bond aims to contribute to ending poverty worldwide by promoting policies based on equality, human rights and social justice that work for the poor.
Bond provides a central point for advocacy and campaigning on development policy issues where member organisations have a common view and can have a strong collective voice.
Our aim is to improve the policies that impact on the lives of people in poverty and to achieve long lasting and effective changes. We need to hold the UK government to account for their development efforts by scrutinising their policies and effectiveness.
How Bond works on policy
A key element of the work of the Bond Secretariat is to facilitate the development of collective action to influence public, private and political bodies in the UK, Europe and internationally. The UK government is a main target for our members. However, increasingly the European level and international processes play a relevant role for the sector
Bond members work on different issues trying to achieve policy change in different areas. Main issues at the moment are aid effectiveness, trade, human security and climate change.
The Bond Secretariat coordinates consultation processes with the Department for International Development (DFID) and others, ensuring that the voices of all our members are heard. Check current consultations
There are several Bond Groups working jointly on policy positions and leading on specific areas of development policy and advocacy for the sector.
Bond offers a variety of training courses on improving advocacy skills and introducing the structures of the UK government and EU institutions.
