G8 Italy 2009
The 2009 G8 Summit took place on 8-10 July 2009 in L'Aquila, Italy. Climate change, energy and food security and development in Africa were all part of the G8 agenda. Leaders at the Summit also discussed the global economy following the outcomes of the G20 Summit in London earlier this year.
The 2009 G8 Summit brought mixed outcomes. Many NGOs felt that there was a some positive movement on climate change with the agreement on capping temperature rises to 2 degrees and a new initiative on agriculture and food security. Yet, there was certainly not enough political momentum and effort to address some of the financial gaps round previuos G8 commitments.
