Bond CONCORD delegates
Following elections in January 2010, two new Bond delegates to the pan-European NGO confederation CONCORD have been elected. Over the coming two years, Margaret Batty from WaterAid and Sarah Douik from Islamic Relief will represent the Bond membership. Margaret and Sarah will take up their positions with immediate effect and will be in position until January 2012.
Margaret Batty
Margaret Batty has been Director of Policy and Campaigns at WaterAid for 2 years. She has 25 years experience of working on EU issues – including: Deputy Director in the Cabinet Office European Secretariat working for the Prime Minister’s EU Advisor/G8 Sherpa; Cabinet Office advisor to newly emerging democracies in Central and Eastern Europe to help with governmental adjustment to EU membership (1997-99); Coordinator for First EU Programme to Combat Poverty on projects and policy for elderly people; Brussels based EU lobbyist and one of the founders of Euro Citizen Action Service (1989-93) a non profit membership organization for NGOs. She is also fluent in French
Sarah Douik
Sarah has been working on humanitarian and development issues in relation with EU institutions for several years, first as a member of the European Commission in 2002 and then as Islamic Relief EU Representative since 2007. She has actively engaged in advocacy and lobbying work as a member of CONCORD EU Policy Forum and VOICE (Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies). In particular, she has contributed to EU lobbying on the humanitarian consensus, disaster risk reduction, civil-military relations, EC aid effectiveness and EU development assistance.
