World Humanitarian Day 19 August 2010
20 August 2010
As the unprecedented scale of humanitarian assistance needed to help those left without food, shelter or water in the aftermath of the Pakistan floods becomes apparent, World Humanitarian Day provides an opportunity for a renewed commitment and respect of humanitarian principles.
World Humanitarian Day was founded in 2009 by the United Nations to honour the experiences and challenges faced by humanitarian workers in the field, not only to raise global awareness of their situation, but also to commemorate those that have sacrificed their lives whilst dedicating themselves to the needs of others.
Bond member People in Aid, amongst others, is paying tribute to this day by profiling some of the great work aid workers, specifically the people managers and HR staff, do within the field and some of the resources available to them: www.peopleinaid.org/whd2010
