EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting: conclusions on MDGs published

15 June 2010

EU Development Ministers met in Luxemburg on Monday 14 June to agree on the EU position towards the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Summit in September.

Bond and CONCORD are disappointed that the Council's conclusions favour an action-oriented approach without proposing an action or breakthrough plan on the EU side.

The document calls on other donors and on developing countries to show strong political commitments in order to achieve the Millenium Development Goals. However, the EU needs to set an example as the world's largest donor. This is especially the case on issues such as Official Development Assistance and Policy Coherence for Development.
