UK aid budget confirmed
25 March 2010
The budget announced by Chancellor Alistair Darling confirmed the UK Government's spending plans for 2010-2011 as agreed in last year's budget. This means that overseas development assistance should rise to £9.1 billion in 2010/11 as planned - £7.8 billion to be spent through DFID - and the government will ensure that it continues to rise so that it reaches 0.7% GNI by 2013.
Bond members welcomed this renewed commitment to international development spending. UK Aid Network had sent a letter to the Chancellor ahead of the budget urging him not to let the poorest down.
