NGOs launch Robin Hood Tax campaign
Leaders of the UK's political parties are being called to support a global tax on the banks to help repair the human damage caused by the global economic crisis, protect public services at home, fight poverty abroad and help foot the bill for climate change.
Over 25 Bond member organisations have united with other civil society organisations to push for a Financial Transactions Tax (or 'Robin Hood' Tax) of just 0.05% on each international financial transaction. This could raise £250 billion every year.Bond, part of the Robin Hood Tax campaign, supports innovative financing for development. This forms a key part of the Vote Global manifesto - the basis of Bond advocacy ahead of the 2010 General Election.

Joint NGO submission on draft 0.7 legislation
The International Development Committee is undertaking a consultation on the draft legislation for enshrining in law the target of 0.7% of GNI as aid. The draft bill was introduced to Parliament by Secretary of State Douglas Alexander on 15 January 2010, yet due to the bill's draft status, there is no parliamentary time for the measure before the General Election. The deadline for written submissions has now passed but the IDC will invite further oral evidence.
The UK Aid Network coordinated a joint submission to the IDC and will be closely monitoring the process in Parliament. Go to the UK Aid Network website to find out more and to get involved in joint advocacy around the bill.
