BOND Review of DFID Governance and Transparency Fund, August 2008
BOND is conducting a short survey on the DFID Governance and Transparency Fund to generate constructive feedback for DFID and other donors on processes around the application to and disbursement of substantial funds for international development. This exercise is not intended to generate detailed statistical information but to provide an opportunity for BOND members and their partner organisations who applied to the Governance and Transparency Fund, both successfully and unsuccessfully, to comment on their experiences and feed into learning for DFID and other donors.

New BOND Voluntary Income Fundraising Group
BOND is currently building a steering committee and chair/s to take the work of this new group forward. The first meeting will specifically focus on recruiting a steering committee to drive the group's activities and approve the terms of reference.
This group is intended to reflect the interests and concerns of those working in fundraising from trusts, foundations, individuals and the private sector, as well as providing a space to share learning and experiences.

Research Into Use - Call for Proposals - Innovation Challenge Fund: Phase 2 Africa
Research Into Use (RIU) has launched a call for proposals for the second phase of its African Innovation Challenge Fund, a DFID-funded programme that provides financial support to take promising research to the next stage of use.
The selected initiatives will contribute to RIU's purpose by delivering significant use of Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (RNRRS) and other natural resources research outputs for the benefit (direct or indirect) of poor men and women in different contexts.
The call is specifically focusing only on Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda.
Deadline: 1st September, 12 noon

Governance and Transparency Fund
Results for the Governance and Transparency Fund (GTF) were announced on 30 April, with a total of 38 projects being funded by this one-off stream. 272 proposals from the UK, mainland Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and Latin America were appraised.
The Governance and Transparency Fund aims to strengthen Southern civil society's capacity to and ability to hold government's to account. BOND is currently conducting a review of DFID processes on the Governance and Transparency Fund.
Civil Society Challenge Fund
A total of 33 new projects will be funded by the Civil Society Challenge Fund (CSCF) this year, out of a total of 181 applications from 106 organisations.
The deadline for concept notes for the 2009 round of funding was 15 June, with final proposals due by 31 July.
Development Awareness Fund
DFID have announced funding for 26 new projects from the Development Awareness Fund. A total of 109 applications were received from 100 civil society organisations, continuting the trend of intense competition for this funding line.
Guidelines and criteria for the 2009/10 round are now available.

New Tips and Tricks on Accessing EC Funds Published
The German Foundation for World Population (DSW) has published the 7th edition of its Tips and Tricks on how to access EC Development Co-operation Funds, as well as other editions of Tips and Tricks focused on accessing EC funds for Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
CONCORD Position Papers
CONCORD is currently developing position papers to use in lobbying the EC on each of their thematic programmes. The BOND EC Funding Group Steering Committee is already feeding into this process but if other members of the EC Funding Group would like to comment on these draft papers, particularly those relating to Food Security, Investing in People, Environment and European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights, please email Joni Hillman.
